It was raining heavily outside. It had been, for the past week now, and Gabriella couldn’t take it much longer. She hadn’t seen Troy, or Taylor, or anyone for ages now, unable to go out in the rain and the cold November weather. She missed all of her friends, but most of all, she missed Troy. Her heart ached for him; she usually saw him most days, but he had been grounded and she had been too - the last time they had snuck out after dark had had disastrous consequences.

She thought back on the time fondly; although they had both had to pay dearly for their two hours of fun, but it had been worth it. He was her best friend, and she would honestly do anything for him. He was the only person in the world who she would always put him in front of herself, and the only person who she’d ever truly love.
She knew that; and she knew that she could never help but be helplessly head over heels with him, because everything he did made her heart skip a beat, her palms get sweaty. He was the only guy who could make her bite her lip for a good reason; when he made he blush she couldn’t help but biting her lip, anxious that she would embarrasses herself. And he was the only person in the entire world who she could really trust, and truly depend on.

The doorbell rang from downstairs. Gabriella got up off her bed and left the room, to open the door. She was the only one at home, as her mother was out and her father was working in China at the moment; that was another thing. Troy didn’t care how much she went on about her father, or how much she cried; in fact, he was more then willing to watch her favourite movies with her, even though they always made her cry. He even kept a copy of A Walk To Remember and Hairspray hidden under his bed for when she was at his house and they wanted to watch a movie. He was such a good friend.

She opened the door and found a certain blue eyed brown haired hottie leaning casually against the door frame. His hair was damp from the rain, as was his loose grey top and jeans. No matter how he looked, he always looked good.

Troy leant against the frame, looking the essence of cool. Except he didn’t feel very cool. He was only leaning against the frame to hold himself upright. No matter how many times he went to Gabriella’s house and they hung out, or she went to his, he could never get his head around the fact that she could manage to look breathtakingly beautiful, and as if she had been dragged through hedge backwards at the same time.
He saw he face light up with delight, and felt his heart start racing and his stomach give birth to butterflies. This happened every time she smiled, though she had no idea.

To him, she was the most wonder creature on earth. He had never been so in love with anyone as he was with Gabriella Montez. The way she bit her lip when he made her blush made his heart turn over, the way she tucked her hair behind her ears made him feel giddy, and the way she tilted her head to the left and leant towards the crook of his neck when they took pictures together was responsible for the huge cheesy grin on his face in every picture. He loved her smell, it reminded her of strawberries and a summers day.
'Cause different

‘Ella’ he grinned. She smiled back and waved him in, but gave him a strange look when he stayed outside.
‘Bolton, its freezing out there. And its pouring down’ she said ‘Come in!’
‘Come outside with me Ella’ he said mischievously, and he winked. ‘I might even have something for you.’
It was a good thing she had been leaning against the door, because she felt her knees wobbled as he winked. She cleared her throat and shook her head.
‘Fine’ she shrugged ‘But hold on. And you had better not let me get too wet and cold!’
She turned and ran back upstairs, searching around for something to throw over the top of her. On the back on the chair to her desk was a big red jacket. She picked it up and ran back down the stairs.
‘Where are we going?’ she said curiously, as she threw it on in the rain. She automatically knew that it was not her jacket …
‘Ella’ Troy mused ‘that’s my jacket.’
‘Oh, is it?’ she said with a smirk on her face ‘I hadn’t noticed.’
But of course she had; she’d smelt his sweet sent the second she had put the jacket on. That just brought back memories of that night they had spent together …
Flashback
Gabriella lay shivering on Troy’s bed.
‘Gabi, its okay’ Troy laughed gently, laying next to her on his double bed
‘You know how scared I am of being at home alone at night Troy’ she whimpered ‘I always think -’
There was a loud bang from downstairs.
‘ - there’s someone else there too’ she whispered fearfully.
‘Its okay Ella’ he said gently ‘your not alone.’
He took his arms off her and sat up. He walked towards the door and opened it quietly.
‘Where are you going?’ she said fearfully
‘Just to see what made the noise. Its alright darlin’ I’ll be back in a sec.’
‘Troy!’ she whispered loudly
‘Yeah?’ he said, turning back to see her anxious face
‘Be careful. If anything happens to you, yell, and I swear I’ll come down there and I’ll kick that guy’s butt from here too New York!’
Troy laughed. ‘Okay Ella. Just don’t go too hard on him.’
He closed the door and looked out into the darkened hallway. His baseball bat lay a little way down the corridor, and he picked it up and tiptoed down the stairs. He headed to the kitchen, where the noise had sounded from, and opened the door a crack. He could see nothing, so he opened it further and turned on the light, stepping in -
There was a shriek, and something clawed at his leg. He yelled in pain and swung the bat round, just missing the thing attached to his leg.
He heard someone thundering down the stairs, and turned to face the door, finding Gabriella, holding his lamp and looking slightly possessed.
‘I swear, if you hurt him again I’ll -’ she froze, looking at the scene, before bursting into laughter, because attached to Troy’s ankle, was his cat, Moxie.
Troy looked down and pushed Moxie off gently.
‘Well, I guess she was the bang’ he laughed, embarrassed. He rubbed the back of his neck and looked at his feet.
‘Come on’ Gabriella laughed, taking his hand, turning off the light and leading him back upstairs. They lay on Troy’s bed again together, her face turned into his chest, his arms wrapped protectively around her. They both inhaled each other’s scent without realising what the other was doing.
‘My hero’ Gabriella had whispered, on the brink of sleep.
End Flashback
‘Ella, you are not that stupid. But ‘Ill allow you to wear it, because I did promise I wouldn’t get you wet.’
‘Or cold, but I’m standing here freezing.’
‘Well come here then’ he said, extending his arm. She nuzzled into his armpit smiling sweetly.
‘Better?’
‘For now’ she smiled, as he wrapped his fingers around hers.
‘Well I’m sure we can find another way to keep you warm when the time comes’ he said mischievously
Suddenly there was a roll of thunder, and a flash of lighting.

‘So Troy’ Gabriella said ‘You never told me why you were here.’
‘Cant a guy take his best friend out for a stroll in the rain these days? Geez, what is the world coming to!’
Gabriella laughed.
‘Seriously though. What’s up Bolton?’
A car splashed by, and they both ducked behind a bush. It looked like Gabriella’s mothers, but a look at the number plate told them it wasn’t. They both knew they would get into serious trouble if they were found outside, as they were grounded, and it was raining. But for each other, they would both go to the ends of the earth.

‘Um, you see Ella’ he said, rubbing the back of his neck ‘I wanted to give you something.’
‘Bolton, I’ve already got your jacket, your iPod, your favourite belt’ she said, counting on her fingers ‘I don’t think you need to give me anything else!’
‘Oh, but I think you’ll like this more then all of them put together’ he said shyly. Gabriella fell silent, her heart thudding in her chest dangerously fast.
‘Close your eyes and give me your hands’ he said. She did as he asked. ‘You trust me?’ he asked
‘Of course I do stupid!’ she laughed ‘Now what the hell have you brought me out her in the pouring rain when were both grounded, and made me close my eyes and -’ he cut he off, grabbing her hands and placing his lips firmly on hers.
Her insides were doing back flips as he slowly wrapped her arms around his neck and placed his on her hips, pulling her closer so that his chest banged against hers. She ran her fingers through the hair on the back of his neck, and smiled in the kiss as he shivered at her touch. Her tongue ran along his bottom lip, and he opened his lips automatically, deepening the kiss. He picked her up, their lips still connected, and swung her round in the rain. He put her down and twisted her fingers into hers.
She pulled away, to catch her breath, and placed her forehead on his. His piercing blue eyes were anxious, she could see.
‘Did you like it?’ he said slowly, pushing her hair back slowly, causing her chills down her spine.

She jumped onto him and wrapped her legs round his torso, grabbing his lips again. He was soaked, but so was she. She couldn’t think of a better way to have a first kiss with someone. This was one of the reasons she could trust him so much.

‘Does that answer your question?’ she asked softly.
‘Yeah’ he smiled, staring into her eyes.
‘Do you want me to give you something now?’ she asked
He nodded.
‘I’m gonna tell you a secret’ she whispered ‘Just between you and me.’
He waited expectantly, while she gathered the courage to just say it.
‘I love you Troy.’
At first he stared at her, looking slightly shocked. Then his face broke into a huge grin and he swung her round again, still attached to him.
‘I love you too Ella’
She giggled and threw her head back, letting the rain soak her face. Then she jumped down and hugged him tight. She never wanted to let him go, and he did want to let her go either.
